Job Overview

A Kroger Bakery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while encouraging other associates to do the same. The role includes maintaining a safe and clean environment, assisting the department manager to meet sales and profit goals, and ensuring quality assurance standards are met. Responsibilities
  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Inform customers of bakery specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products that match their orders and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
  • Recommend bakery items to customers to ensure they receive the products they want and need.
  • Use all equipment in the bakery such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, and other machines according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
  • Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review sell‑by dates and take appropriate action.
  • Properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, computerized scales, fryers, steamers, and cutting robots.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Understand the store layout and locate products when requested by customers.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertising.
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and answer questions or make suggestions to customers.
  • Monitor inventory and staffing levels, noting discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions, notifying store management.
  • Display a positive attitude.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of items in need of repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity (including robbery, theft, or fraud).
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Desire to learn food production and basic cooking techniques.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
