Retail Associate/ Customer Service, Customer Service Rep, Cashier
Position Summary
This role is responsible for providing courteous customer service in person or by telephone; answering incoming calls to the retail store and directing them to the appropriate department, and assisting guests with their questions in store. The associate will also operate the cash register and/or assist guests with self‑checkouts.
Key Responsibilities- Provide courteous guest service in person or by telephone.
- Answer incoming calls to the retail store and direct calls to the appropriate department.
- Assist guests with store questions and perform/process guest services transactions such as credits, over‑rings, refunds, lottery ticket sales, money orders/transfers (Western Union), media purchases, etc., in accordance with company policies.
- Operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and assist guests with self‑checkouts.
- Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons; and bag customer purchases.
- Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations.
- Use check‑stand equipment (register, self‑checkouts) and ensure efficient operation.
- Comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling, product handling (damaged/spoiled products), and sale of alcohol and tobacco products.
- Communicate company programs (e.g., loyalty program, scans), in‑store specials, and coupons to customers; model high standards of service to support a customer‑oriented store.
- Maintain a clean and well‑stocked department; ensure compliance with company safety and sanitation procedures and standards.
- Notify department lead or manager of any issues with pricing, cash registers, etc.
- Follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines, Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations, and Guest Experience Guidelines.
- May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- One year of prior retail or related experience preferred.
- Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
- Strong customer service and organizational skills; detail‑oriented.
- Good reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate may be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally; stand and walk for extended periods; bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently; and work in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
