This role is responsible for providing support to the Store Director while learning and becoming skilled in the management of all areas of the store. Under the direction of the Store Director, the Associate will ensure all departments are fully staffed, trained, and operating efficiently; maintain store profitability by monitoring all financial aspects of purchasing, stocking, selling, payroll, and other general expenses and income;
maintain the physical location properly including equipment, sanitization, safety, and general appearance; and communicate and execute the corporate plans. The Associate will also complete all other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
- Regular inspections of all areas, providing feedback to department managers.
- Review reports, take action, and communicate information as needed.
- Engage in financial planning including budgeting, staffing/payroll, facility maintenance, and upgrading.
- Communicate and work with Spartan Nash personnel.
- Train others to perform all department activities and functions.
- Manage the selection, scheduling, and supervision of others.
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, and customer‑friendly department.
- Have familiarity with all products carried in the department; know differences in price, taste, preparation, use, etc.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) in Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Three years of experience in a retail grocery environment with increasing levels of responsibility.
- One year of experience in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in a retail environment.
- Proficient computer skills (email, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents.
- Accounting/Bookkeeping skills.
- Interpret/Analyze financials.
- Develop/Manage budgets.
- Delegate/Direct/Implement.
- Suggestive selling/knowledge of products.
- Detail oriented.
May be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The associate is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk. The position is predominantly in a typical office environment and is rarely exposed to outside weather conditions. Noise levels are usually low to moderate, though they may be higher in distribution settings. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
