Guest Service Associate

This role is responsible for providing courteous customer service in person or by telephone; answers incoming calls to the retail store and directs incoming calls to the appropriate department and assist with guest questions in store. Also responsible for operating cash register and/or assisting guests with self-checkouts.

• Provide courteous guest service in person or by telephone; answer incoming calls to the retail store and direct calls to the appropriate department and assist guests with questions in store.
• Perform/process guest services transactions such as credits, over-rings, refunds, lottery ticket sales, money orders/transfers, media related purchases, etc. in accordance with Company policies.
• Operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and assist guests with self-checkouts; handle a variety of products which may include dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy products, produce, poultry, fish, beef and pork products.
• Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons; and bag customer purchases.
• Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations.
• Understand use of check-stand equipment (register, self-checkouts) and its efficient operation.
• Comply with Company policies regarding security, cash handling/cash drawer accounting procedures, product handling (e.g., damaged/spoiled products), the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, etc.
• Communicate Company programs (e.g., loyalty program, scans, etc.), in-store specials and coupons to customers, and model high standards of service.
• Maintain a clean and well-stocked department; ensure compliance with safety and sanitation procedures and standards.
• Notify department lead or manager of any issues with pricing or cash registers.
• Follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines, Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations, and Guest Experience Guidelines.
• May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience need.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

• High school diploma or GED (required).
• One year of prior retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
• Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Good reading, writing and arithmetic skills are required.

May be required to lift or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. The associate is required to stand and walk for extended periods and may bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently. Conditions include a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures, exposure to outside weather conditions, a normally low to moderate noise level, and travel requirements that vary by assignment.
