Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Outside Sales Representative is to achieve sales and profit objectives by identifying, developing, and expanding new business opportunities while retaining and growing existing customer relationships within the assigned territory. This role involves educating customers on the company’s full range of vendor offerings, products, and services. The position emphasizes customer satisfaction through consistent communication, relationship management, and reliable service.
While the role requires regular in-person visits, interactions may also take place through electronic communication such as email, phone, or virtual meetings.
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key accounts.
- Build and sustain relationships across multiple departments within customer organizations (maintenance, engineering, purchasing, management, etc.).
- Establish productive working relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for customers by identifying needs and recommending engineered or customized product solutions.
- Set sales goals and develop strategies to generate revenue through market development, forecasting, lead generation, qualification, and closing.
- Apply proven sales principles and best practices to meet or exceed objectives.
- Dedicate time to prospecting, qualifying, cold calling, and networking to expand market presence.
- Collaborate with internal operations and support teams to meet customer requirements and achieve sales targets.
- Participate in individual or group training sessions, either in person or through online platforms, on company or vendor products and services.
- Maintain accurate records and activity reports using the company’s CRM system.
- Prepare proposals, quotations, and sales orders through the company’s ERP software.
- Provide prompt assistance for customer emergencies and after-hours requests.
- Conduct technical sales presentations and deliver training sessions for customers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule/Shift Details: Daytime hours
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted when competency is demonstrated. Examples include:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or industrial distribution.
- Experience selling or marketing technical products to industrial markets.
- Background in customer service or inside sales within industrial distribution or hands-on experience with industrial products (bearings, power transmission, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical components, etc.).
Additional Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to walk through large industrial facilities as required.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to successfully pass pre-employment screening including drug testing and background/reference checks.
