Position Summary
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Armed Security Officer IV located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.
The Armed Security Officer (ASO) IV is a newly hired Security Officer at Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) training to become a fully qualified Security Officer. The ASO IV designation will remain in effect through the first 12 months of employment. The ASO IV will be fully qualified after initial training is complete. The remainder of the first 12 months will be used to demonstrate proficiency through classroom training, on‑job training, Task Performance Evaluations, and security drills to provide protection of CNS facilities against external and internal threats.
The ASO IV will utilize prescribed policies and procedures to implement the CNS Security Plan for the purpose of preventing radiological sabotage.

Education, Training and ExperienceHigh school diploma or a GED is required.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and meet general criteria for security personnel requirements per 10 CFR Part 73 Appendix
B. This includes annual security officer requalification and firearms requalification on a trimester frequency.

Responsibilities- Demonstrate mental alertness and the capability to exercise good judgment, implement instructions, assimilate assigned security tasks, and possess the acuity of senses and ability of expression sufficient to permit accurate communication by written, spoken, audible, visible, or other signals required by assigned job duties.
- Demonstrate no emotional instability that would interfere with the effective performance of assigned security job duties.
- Perform routine foot patrols and vehicle patrols as required.
- Perform routine duties while carrying a rifle.
- Perform personnel, vehicle, and material searches as required by procedures, Training Qualification Plan, and Physical Security Plan.
- Respond to alarm activations.
- Perform compensatory and contingency duties in accordance with the Physical Security Plan.
- Adhere to required working hours, arriving at work on time, avoiding disruption of shift turnover, and supporting safe operations and licensing requirements for CNS.
- Must be willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule, including weekends, holidays, and back shifts.
Up to 25% (with no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska). Travel required may fluctuate by business need.
Salary InformationArmed Security Officer IV, III non‑exempt pay grade 8: $26.47 – $28.89
Armed Security Officer II, I non‑exempt pay grade 9: $31.57 – $33.78
Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary and an annual incentive program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation. Successful applicants will receive more information about the AIP at the time of an interview.

NPPD employees may participate in a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow pre‑tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five‑year vesting period begins on the employee’s hire date. Retired employees are eligible for retiree health care benefits and a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries.
