The Public Safety Security Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors through uniformed presence on campus and in the hospital environment. Officers perform uniformed foot and vehicle security patrols, monitor using surveillance systems, secure buildings and property, respond to and report suspicious behavior, disturbances, and thefts. They maintain order as assigned or until law enforcement personnel are available and provide security as necessary for special events.
This is a full‑time position in a 24/7 operation. Availability must accommodate 24‑hour coverage, including days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, mandatory overtime, and pre‑scheduled special events. Work hours are initially assigned to accommodate training and immediate scheduling needs and are then determined by periodic bid process.
Officers respond to emergencies within the hospital and clinic areas and are trained to use specialised protective gear for communicable illness situations. This gear requires contact with smooth skin; therefore, officers must remain clean‑shaven.
Required Qualifications- High school education or equivalent.
- No prior experience required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be able to drive.
- Proficiency in speaking and writing English.
- Typing/keyboarding required for report documentation.
- Must pass a Background Check, Physical Exam, and Drug Test.
- Must be fitted for and able to train in and use N95 safety equipment when needed.
- Must be CPR certified upon hire or successfully complete a department‑provided CPR class within 3 months of hire.
- Previous security experience or direct public interaction experience.
- Bilingual capabilities are appreciated.
