Nature of WorkThis is technical work operating closed-circuit television (CCTV) and robotic equipment to inspect and collect data on the City’s sanitary and sanitary combined sewer collection systems infrastructure to protect the environment and public from sewer spills. Work includes utilizing CCTV software to record data and generate electronic reports. Incumbents use their experience and data to assist superiors with analysis to better manage the collection systems.
An employee in this classification acts as a crew leader providing direction to a crew. Work is performed both independently and under the direction of a supervisor.
High school graduation or its equivalent. AND One (1) year experience working with wastewater collection systems, data collection, and CCTV and robotic equipment maintenance and operation.
Special QualificationsMust possess and maintain at least a Class B commercial driver’s license with an N endorsement by the end of the probationary period.

Must be available to work on-call and after hours to respond to emergency situations as necessary.
Pay Range$24.25 with step increases to $35.22 Hourly

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.

- Knowledge of CCTV and robotic equipment and operation.
- Knowledge of National Association of Sewer Service Companies coding practices for Pipeline Assessment Certification Program, Manhole Assessment Certification Program, and Lateral Assessment Certification Program.
- Knowledge of safety precautions for working in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of wastewater, combination, and stormwater collection systems.
- Knowledge of work zone safety.
- Skill in the supervision of the work performed by sewer-cleaning equipment operators.
- Skill in operating underground utility locating equipment.
- Skill in operating high-pressure sewer cleaning equipment to prepare pipes for inspection.
- Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, “as built” plans, and blueprints.
- Ability to measure within 1/16 of an inch.
- Ability to calculate averages, percentages, slopes, and other mathematical formulas using a calculator.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and industry representatives.
- Ability to understand oral or written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public.
- Ability to learn and adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to fit into a 24in wide manhole structure and utilize a ladder or confined space entry equipment to enter and exit structures.
- Locates sites for CCTV inspections using sewer maps, industry maps, blueprints, and the Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Installs CCTV inspection equipment in manholes.
- Locates buried manholes using CCTV inspection equipment and electronic cable tracking equipment.
- Uses current sewer mapping and magnetic locator to locate and mark sewer manholes and lines in the field.
