Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Position OverviewThe Asphalt Equipment Operator is responsible for control and operation multiple types of asphalt paving equipment and laborer duties.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)- Ensuring a safe work environment by adhering safety protocols, following instructions, and safety regulations.
- Operates various types of asphalt paving equipment including asphalt paver, screed, rollers, mill, broom and skid steer.
- Loading, unloading and distributing asphalt and other materials using appropriate equipment.
- Set up and tear down equipment.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Perform general labor duties when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Minimum of 1 year experience and/or training in a related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
- Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
- Knowledge in operating heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
- Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
- Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.
- Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
- Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to climb ladders, inclined walkways, access elevated platforms and to work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
- May require sitting for extended periods of time.
