Maintenance Supervisor (Working Supervisor) Position Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor (working supervisor) is a hands‑on role responsible for keeping all equipment and systems in the facility running safely, efficiently, and reliably. This position combines technical work with leadership — performing maintenance and repairs while also developing structure, systems, and preventive maintenance routines for the department.
The supervisor will coordinate maintenance priorities, manage downtime response, and work closely with Operations to support production needs. This role is expected to continuously look for ways to reduce costs by handling repairs, maintenance, and equipment installations in‑house whenever possible. As the department grows, this position will help train and direct additional maintenance team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance- Develop and manage a preventive maintenance (PM) schedule for all equipment.
- Perform PM tasks and ensure critical wear parts are stocked and tracked.
- Work with vendors and manufacturers to define recommended PM procedures.
- Establish and maintain PM records for all new and existing equipment.
- Lead all equipment troubleshooting and repair efforts.
- Respond quickly to equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Source replacement parts and coordinate external service or contractors when needed.
- Maintain a simple log of all repair work for visibility and planning.
- Actively seek opportunities to complete repairs in‑house and reduce reliance on outside vendors.
- Create and maintain LOTO procedures for all equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance and production staff follow proper safety procedures.
- Keep a master list of LOTO documentation and ensure equipment is properly labeled with safety warnings.
- Manage and support the installation of new equipment, from delivery through startup.
- Coordinate layout planning, utilities, wiring, and control setup as needed.
- Perform as much installation work in‑house as practical to reduce costs.
- Work directly with vendors and contractors during installs and commissioning.
- Set up and prepare equipment for production runs to ensure uptime and readiness.
- Assist with changeovers, adjustments, and production line improvements.
- Collaborate with Operations on equipment priorities, downtime planning, and process improvements.
- Participate in daily production meetings and monthly safety meetings.
- Serve as the primary maintenance contact for the facility.
- Coordinate with production employees who assist with maintenance tasks.
- Help define long‑term structure and standards for the maintenance department as it grows.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and basic project coordination.
- Understanding of LOTO, safety, and equipment installation procedures.
- Good communication and organization skills.
- Basic knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and control systems is preferred.
- Resourceful, cost‑conscious approach to maintenance and repairs.
