The Level 2 Cable Technician is a mid‑level position responsible for independently installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems in commercial and/or residential environments. This role requires hands‑on technical expertise, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and leadership in supporting Level 1 technicians on job sites.
Key Responsibilities- Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Independently run, route, and secure cabling according to project specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to execute installations.
- Perform cable terminations including RJ45 ends, patch panels, and fiber connectors.
- Use testing equipment (Fluke testers, OTDRs, certification tools) to ensure system performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity and performance issues.
- Install and configure racks, cabinets, patch panels, and cable management systems.
- Ensure all work complies with TIA/EIA standards and company quality guidelines.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Level 1 Cable Technicians.
- Maintain accurate documentation, labeling, and job reporting.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and clients as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in structured cabling or low‑voltage installation.
- Strong knowledge of cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI best practices).
- Proficiency in termination, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical diagrams.
- Experience with cable certification tools and test equipment.
- Ability to lead small tasks or crews on job sites with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments (lifting, climbing ladders, confined spaces).
- BICSI Installer 1 or 2 certification (or equivalent).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with fiber optic splicing and testing.
- Knowledge of access control, CCTV, or AV systems.
- Experience in commercial construction or data center environments.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
