Job Overview
The Omaha Correctional Center is seeking a self-motivated Plumber to install, alter, repair, and maintain pipe systems throughout the facility. This role includes work with a variety of plumbing fixtures, fire protection sprinkler systems, sewage systems, and mechanical equipment. The position requires adherence to safety codes, training of helpers and apprentices, and preparation of work estimates.
Responsibilities- Install, alter, repair, and maintain pipe systems above, below, and within structures (walls, floors, ceilings).
- Work with plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, water heaters, faucets, and kitchen/laundry equipment.
- Maintain and repair components like traps, vents, drains, siphons, pumps, valves, and shock arrestors.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to identify and correct deficiencies.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications; sketch plumbing layouts.
- Estimate time, materials, and cost for work orders; requisition necessary supplies.
- Install and maintain fire protection sprinkler systems, sewage systems, and water treatment facilities.
- Repair and adjust mechanical equipment including water/steam pumps, compressors, and fuel storage systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations.
- Train and guide helpers and apprentices in plumbing techniques and safety procedures.
- Training and experience in the plumbing trade.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Able to pass pre‑employment exams, a medical exam, and drug testing.
- Successful completion of the full NE Corrections Training Program at the Staff Training Academy.
