Lead Maintenance Technician
We are seeking a hands-on Lead Maintenance Technician to take ownership of maintenance and repair activities for heavy industrial equipment. This is a working, hands-on role focused primarily on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repair, with responsibility for directing and training one maintenance assistant.
The ideal candidate is mechanically and electrically strong, comfortable troubleshooting across multiple systems, and able to identify and address critical issues before they impact production.
Hands-On Technical WorkPerform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on heavy industrial equipment.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.
Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
Service motors, gears, drive systems, and industrial wiring.
Troubleshoot PLCs and control systems as needed.
Maintain HVAC systems and electrical distribution, including low- and high-voltage systems.
Respond to equipment failures and emergencies to minimize production downtime.
Perform welding and other general maintenance work as needed.
Maintenance Execution & DocumentationComplete scheduled PMs accurately and on time using a CMMS system.
Create and manage work orders for critical or unplanned repairs.
Maintain accurate equipment history, maintenance records, and parts usage.
Direct, train, and support one maintenance assistant with PM and repair tasks.
Coordinate maintenance activities around production requirements.
Assist with equipment and facility improvement projects.
Coordinate with outside contractors when specialized work is required.
Use sound judgment to identify and escalate issues requiring immediate attention.
QualificationsStrong hands-on experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.
Strong hands-on experience with electrical systems and wiring, including low and high voltage.
Strong plumbing and mechanical maintenance experience.
Experience with motors, gears, bearings, and mechanical drive systems.
Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical schematics.
Experience with PLCs and industrial control systems.
Proficiency using basic electrical troubleshooting tools, including ohmmeters and related diagnostic equipment.
Experience using a CMMS platform for preventative maintenance and work orders;
MaintainX experience is a plus.
Experience directing, mentoring, or training at least one other maintenance employee.
Familiarity with HVAC installation, operation, and troubleshooting.
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with operations and production teams.
Welding and boiler experience are a plus.
3rd Grade Stationary Engineer certification is preferred but not required.
Work EnvironmentFull-time, hands-on maintenance position.
Primarily performed on-site in an industrial production environment.
Requires the ability to troubleshoot equipment, respond to maintenance issues, and perform physical maintenance tasks.
