Stephen Center has served homeless and low-income individuals in Omaha since 1984 with the mission to partner with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty. The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing offerings provide safe and secure housing while individuals and families complete an assessment of permanent housing options. All Stephen Center residents have access to dual diagnosis support services via the HERO addiction/recovery program.
100% of Stephen Center shelter supportive housing participants are living in poverty. Housing transition support identifies poverty barriers that may impact one’s ability to achieve or maintain permanent housing through case management, life skills, and behavioral health services. Stephen Center serves approximately 250 people daily in all programs.

Purpose:
The Shelter Guest Services is responsible for the care and oversight ofthe clients residing in the shelter.
Staff has the opportunity to direct clients by assisting them with questions, problems and emergencies.
Other duties include maintaining accurate logs, filing out incident reports and other necessary paperwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensureall safety and security guidelines are followed.
- Advocate on behalf of the clients in addition to addressing the needs of the clients including but not limited to medical and dental appointments, transportation,mental health referrals, job leads, etc.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate client behavior using shelter rules asguidelines.
Initiate appropriateconsequences as necessary - Logclient’s medication that includes counting medication upon arrival and monitoring daily intake.
Updatemedication logs - Keephallways and rooms clean and orderly.
- Assist/directclients to follow through with chores
- Address client and community partner inquiries promptly and accurately
- Answer incoming calls, distribute messages for clients
- Keepup to date and accurate records of current clients
- Collaborate with case managers in collecting data from clients at entry and exitinformation upon departure
- Accuratelymaintain and monitor ban list
- Generate incident reports as necessary
- Clearly and accurately communicate with leadership regarding bed availability, client count and client intakes
- Contact and coordinate emergencypersonnel when necessary
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Conduct Roll-call in the evenings,inspect shelter area for order and cleanliness
- Complete telephone assessment to determine client eligibility
- Complete intakes for eligible individuals
- Complete UA and alcohol test on current and potential clients.
- Complete hourly shift report
- Participate in cross-training within theHERO Program to support overnight coverage needs and ensure continuity of operations, as applicable.
- Perform additional duties as assigned tosupport program operations, client care, and organizational needs.
