The Advocate I is an entry to intermediate-level direct service advocate responsible for providing support, advocacy, referrals, and assistance to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and stalking. This position focused on building competency, consistency, and confidence in WCA’s advocacy model while delivering trauma-informed, survivor-centered services.
This position is 100% devoted to direct client services, which include: crisis intervention, safety planning, documentation, hotline response, community outreach, facilitating support groups, job-related training, and participation in internal WCA meetings.
Advocate I team members work independently in routine situations while continuing to develop advance advocacy, crisis intervention, and systems navigation skills. Advocates collaborate with WCA team members and partner agencies to ensure a seamless, trauma-informed response to survivors’ needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Day-to-Day Advocacy and Client Support
- Provide client-centered services in person, by phone, and in community settings, including hospitals, courts, and other assigned locations.
- Respond to hotline calls, walk-ins, and hospital response requests assigned.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in client files and databases.
- Maintain current knowledge of community resources and referral options to support client needs.
- Deliver crisis intervention and individualized safety planning tailored to each client’s situation.
- Support clients in navigating healthcare, legal, criminal justice, housing, social services, and other systems.
- Assist clients with obtaining emergency shelter, financial assistance, and other basic needs.
- Facilitate client groups and educational programming as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with agency policies and HIPAA standards.
- Successfully achieve SMART performance goals established by WCA leadership, including goals related to service quality, documentation, responsiveness, professional development, and collaboration.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, reliability, and follow-through on assigned responsibilities.
- Participate in supervision, staff meetings, training opportunities, and agency initiatives.
- Complete new employee orientation and a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education annually.
- Collaborate with WCA staff and partners to coordinate services and support a seamless, trauma-informed response to survivors’ needs.
- Present information about WCA services to community partners and at outreach events specifically aimed at reaching survivors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
