Overview

As our Software Engineer
, you will be responsible for working closely with the business community to understand the business processes and needs/requirements of business clients. With minimum guidance, you will develop, analyze, and document changes required in the IT systems to fulfill requirements submitted by the users/business partners for our eCommerce environment.

This is an on-site position in Omaha, Nebraska.

Detailed Description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Interprets design documents, completes analysis and creates designs on simple to moderate projects under general supervision

Provides level of effort estimation on completing code, unit testing

Oversees small projects

Conducts design walk throughs on own work

Codes, tests, and debugs moderately complex programming projects from detailed specifications independently with limited supervision across one or more platforms

Write unit tests for code changes and assists in QA testing

Provide status reports on assigned projects

Create design documents, Unit test scripts and User manuals.

Participates with team members in estimating resource requirements, project/sprint planning and scheduling for development projects

Abides by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company

Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice

Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors

Marginal Functions

Participates in regularly rotated on-call duties:
Must be available 24 hours/day to receive calls from Operators/Users, investigate and solve issues while on call

Assist in defect incident report, determine root cause and resolution

Performs other duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess an understanding of business applications and design techniques
Must possess communication skills that will help in determining customer’s exact needs and in disseminating that information to appropriate personnel
Ability to become proficient in the daily operations at Oriental Trading Company
Knowledge of application development/maintenance for services and executable applications
Knowledge of source control software and dump analysis techniques
Knowledge of cloud platforms and tools like AWS EC2, AWS S3, etc.
Able to use advanced system utilities (TAATOOLS, Job Scheduler, APIs, etc.). Can use new utilities relying only on manuals
Understanding of System Analysis, Design, and System Integration
Moderate knowledge Java EE Technologies (ranging from EJB to JSP), HTML, CSS and XML
Spring Framework and Visual Basic experience preferred
Some experience in testing techniques and able to learn testing requirements of systems supported
Knowledge of applications development/maintenance for interactive and batch programming (e.g. Java or RPG)
Knowledge of modes of data/file transfer protocols or mechanisms (e.g. FTP, JDBC, etc.)
Moderate knowledge Oracle DB or PostgreSQL

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics and communication or closely related field required

Experience

Minimum two years of experience with application development, software QA, or related field

Other Qualifications

Ability to perform the job in a safe manner
