Position Overview

Kiewit Technology Group's Transformation Acceleration Group (TAG) is hiring a Technical Lead to help design and deliver AI-powered enterprise applications across Kiewit’s district portfolio. This role is ideal for a developer who has outgrown pure implementation and is ready to think at the systems level — shaping how applications are structured, how they integrate, and how AI can be leveraged to accelerate delivery.

You’ll work alongside senior architects while building your own architectural instincts through hands‑on design and mentorship.

District Overview

Kiewit Technology Group builds solutions to enable and support our company's expansive operations. Our mission is to deliver project schedule and cost certainty by employing technology designed by and for the construction industry. Our team utilizes systems and tools that manage every part of Kiewit's business and the project lifecycle to improve planning and day‑to‑day execution in the field. We give our people real‑time data to make faster, smarter decisions.

Location

This position is a full time in office role. We are willing to consider candidates to report in office to one of the three following locations:
LaVista, NE;
Houston, TX (Energy Corridor);
Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities
  • Help design, build, and optimize AI‑systems and solutions that advance our digital capabilities and create real value for districts.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify district opportunities and AI use cases.
  • Translate abstract business problems into concrete, innovative AI solutions.
  • Drive code quality, robust architecture, and documentation within technical teams.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and upskilling within the AI team.
  • You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
  • Stay current on Azure services, AI tooling, and industry patterns — and share learnings with the team.
  • Help evaluate third‑party tools and services for fit within Kiewit’s enterprise constraints.
Growth & Mentorship
  • Pair regularly with senior architects on design sessions, trade‑off analysis, and stakeholder communication.
  • Participate in TAG’s architecture review board and contribute to enterprise patterns library.
  • Access to learning resources, conference attendance, and certification support.
  • Clear progression path to Senior Solutions Architect based on demonstrated architectural leadership.
  • Opportunity to define new patterns at the intersection of AI, governance, and enterprise software.
What Makes this Role Unique
  • You’ll architect AI‑powered solutions, not just use AI as a feature — it’s woven into how we design and build.
  • TAG is building the foundational platforms for a $16B+ enterprise — your designs will scale across 40+ districts.
  • You’ll work across problem domains: internal platforms, district tools, AI governance, and SAP integration.
  • Strong mentorship culture: direct access to senior architects with deep Azure, AI, and enterprise experience.
  • We practice what we preach — our own development process uses AI agents, automated specs, and structured verification.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in AI engineering and 10+ years of overall work experience.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices including source control, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, and cloud‑native architecture.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS cloud services (compute, identity, networking, storage).
  • Proficiency in at least two of:
    React/Type Script, Python, C#/.NET.
  • Demonstrated curiosity about AI/ML: prompt engineering, LLM integration, agent patterns, or model evaluation.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to share ideas and collaborate.
  • Growth mindset — eagerness to learn from senior architects and continuously expand your skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing multi‑service architectures (microservices, event‑driven, or modular monolith patterns).
  • Familiarity with Azure Container Apps, Entra , Bicep, and API Management.
  • Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot,…
