Pay of $20.03 per hour*, with the opportunity for future increase per applicable collective bargaining agreement wage scale based on time in position. Opportunities for overtime and shift premiums.

About the Role

Ramp Agents guide planes, move bags and cargo, assist with de‑icing during cold weather, and help keep our operation running smoothly. It’s a busy, hands‑on job where teamwork ensures flights leave on time. Whether you’re an aviation pro or new to the industry, you’ll gain valuable experience while helping Southwest run safely and on schedule.

Employment Details

Union‑planned and part‑time. Typically 32 hours over 5 days, with schedules based on seniority and bidding. New hires complete 4–6 weeks of training (8 hours each day). Post‑training, part‑time new hires work 6.5‑hour shifts over 5 days, with potential for mandatory overtime. This role falls under a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly service and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Work cooperatively to ensure company success.
  • Assist passengers, cargo, and baggage at ramps and terminals.
  • Load, unload, guide, and direct company aircraft.
  • Receive and record customer baggage, air freight, mail, and company materials.
  • Handle loading, stowing, and unloading of cargo and baggage per plan received electronically or manually; submit cargo bin loading slips.
  • Transport cargo and baggage to and from aircraft and maintain accurate records.
  • Warehouse, weigh, stack, and verify air cargo; correct discrepancies.
  • Safeguard customers’ baggage, cargo, and mail from weather, loss, theft, or damage.
  • Use jetway stairs to move items to the aircraft bin.
  • Review cargo forms for accuracy and correct as needed.
  • Perform interior aircraft cabin cleaning (hand sweeping, window cleaning, galley, and disposal containers).
  • Clean and service lavatories; operate lavatory carts.
  • Optionally perform provisioning duties (stocking cabin interiors, maintaining inventory).
  • Transport cabin and cleaning equipment between storage areas.
  • Operate or drive motorized equipment (belt loaders, air‑start units, lift trucks, push‑back tugs, bag carts, lavatory carts, de‑icers).
  • Push and pull push carts and containers manually.
  • Work within passenger terminals, hangars, and air‑freight facilities, indoors and outdoors.
  • May be exposed to varied weather, jet and machinery noises, fumes, dirt, and dust.
  • Complete forms and paperwork and enter information into company systems.
  • Perform duties as directed by leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
  • Team player, thrives under stress.
  • Complete Ramp Agent training with 90%+ average.
  • Read documents, follow instructions, and understand ramp operations procedures, rules, and regulations.
