Spartan Nash, part of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family, seeks a Driver to operate commercial trucks safely, deliver products to customers across the United States, and maintain compliance with DOT regulations.
Position SummaryThe Driver will operate commercial truck(s) and trailer(s) to deliver products on a daily schedule, including overnight trips. Responsibilities include unloading, obtaining delivery confirmation, completing paperwork, and performing vehicle inspections.
Responsibilities- Safely drive commercial truck(s) with trailer(s) on designated routes according to delivery schedule.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency components are operational and meet DOT regulations.
- Assist in unloading products at each delivery location, verify correct items, obtain delivery confirmations and customer signatures.
- Maintain DOT driver logs or electronic logging device records and complete daily driver logs.
- Report any loading/unloading hazards, invoice discrepancies or damaged goods to dispatcher or supervisor.
- Coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, including cleaning, tire inflation, state inspections and minor repairs.
- Provide quality customer service, address schedule or quality issues, and communicate updates to dispatch.
- Assist with overnight trips and work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (required).
- At least six months or 50,000 miles of all‑season commercial driving experience.
- Successful DOT physical examination and pre‑employment drug test; subject to periodic random alcohol and drug testing.
- Ability to work up to 60 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and flex shifts.
- Strong communication, organizational, prioritization, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Customer‑service orientation and ability to read maps, route schedules, and operate vehicles in various traffic and weather conditions.
- Knowledge of federal regulations and DOT guidelines.
- Capability to operate GPS / Electronic On‑Board Recorders and basic computer skills.
- Willingness to travel overnight on occasion.
- Ability to lift or move up to 100 pounds, push or pull pallets and carts up to 2,700 pounds, and sit up to 11 hours per day.
- Lift up to 100 pounds in loading/unloading; average case weight 18.7 pounds, 83% of cases under 30 pounds.
- Push or pull loaded pallets and carts weighing up to 2,700 pounds.
- Sit up to eleven hours per day and frequently climb in and out of tractor and trailer.
- Operate in varied weather conditions; exposure to outdoor elements.
- Noise level usually low to moderate, occasionally moderate to high.
