Relief Plant Dispatcher – Omaha, NE (Internal Applicants Only)

Position Overview

The Plant Dispatcher is responsible for operating trucks to transport dirt, aggregate, asphalt and other materials and/or equipment to various locations. When providing dispatch coverage, this position manages the driver’s schedule and routes while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers, production teams, and service personnel. This role covers the full‑time position when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receives calls from customers and guides them through the ordering process.
  • Works with dispatch center to coordinate trucks at the plant site, schedule, print tickets, and schedule.
  • Establishes delivery times based on truck capacities, distances to delivery sites, and fleet availability.
  • Maintains active communication with dispatch center and reports plant breakdowns and startups to all personnel.
  • Enters orders into the computer system.
  • Places orders at appropriate locations based on job site location and plant availability.
  • Advises customers on mix to use for specific applications (e.g., footing, walls, flat work).
  • Monitors equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules.
  • Handles all calls and other forms of communication in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen, criminal background check, and motor vehicle record check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement and meet company MVR standards.
  • Must have and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certificate.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manuals.
  • Regular, on‑time, and consistent attendance is required; willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and away from home when required.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as required by OSHA, MSHA, company policy, and job site requirements.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as needed.
  • Professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs, and other conditions affecting daily responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving, and receiving feedback.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly, 35 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent talking, hearing, walking, sitting, occasional standing, reaching, using hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching as required.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment.
  • Communicate with others by telephone, electronically, and in person.
  • Utilize a computer for email communication and preparation of documents and spreadsheets.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
