The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD), is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill the Structures Inspection and Maintenance Supervisor (Structural Engineer Transportation Supervisor) vacancy in the Bureau of Structures.
Location and Schedule- Southwest Region (Madison or La Crosse)
- Southeast Region (Waukesha)
This position offers a hybrid work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from a DTSD regional office building in Madison, La Crosse, or Waukesha at least two days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin.

This supervisor position is responsible for the oversight of the Regional Structures Inspection and Maintenance Unit B in the Structures Maintenance Section of the Bureau of Structures (BOS). It operates independently and reports to the Chief of Structures Maintenance with minimal supervision. It oversees the inspection and maintenance program for structures in the jurisdiction of the Madison, La Crosse, and Waukesha offices.
It communicates with partners outside BOS, including other DTSD bureaus and regions, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), county personnel, and engineering consulting firms regarding civil and structural engineering programs, policies, and procedures. It also coordinates with other BOS Maintenance Section supervisors to promote consistent process and procedure across the state.
This position requires a background in structures, including an understanding of design and construction concepts, general knowledge regarding structure repair and maintenance, and an understanding of structure inspection. Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills are required. The supervisor must effectively prioritize and assign work, manage multiple tasks, projects, and initiatives concurrent within the unit, and develop written policy documents to communicate to the appropriate parties.
Salaryand Additional Compensation
This position is in schedule‑range 81‑30 with an annual salary of $115,690 – $122,034. An additional $2,080 per year is available for a Professional Engineer License. A twelve‑month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Special Requirements- This position requires WisDOT Certified Inspection Team Leader and Inspection Program Manager credentials, or the ability to obtain both within six months of hire.
- Requires the ability to frequently travel statewide with some overnight stays at remote locations.
This position is required to serve in a rotating formal standby status as a member of the BOS Technical Expert Response team responding to emergency situations involving structures (i.e., flood events, bridge damage, etc.).
