Hmong Language Support Intern

This position supports HR by providing Hmong translation and interpretation services, assisting coworkers with language support needs, and contributing to inclusion and engagement initiatives across the organization. The intern will work closely with Inclusion Team members, leaders, and coworkers to foster a culture of belonging and accessibility for Hmong speaking coworkers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Remove language barriers for Hmong-speaking coworkers by providing accurate written and verbal Hmong/English translations and interpretations for HR, safety, training, benefits, and workplace communications.
  • Serve as a resource for coworkers needing translation, interpretation support, including making phone calls and communication through email as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Hmong-speaking coworkers through regular outreach, production floor presence, and ongoing communication.
  • Assist with language support cases and help maintain translated documents, training materials, signage, and other language access initiatives.
  • Partner with leaders and business partners across the organization to support languageaccess initiatives and coworker communication needs.
  • Work closely with Inclusion coordinators and HR leaders to identify language accessibility gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Help maintain translated resources and language-access materials to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Use feedback and data to suggest enhancements to Inclusion programs and case management processes.
  • Support inclusion and engagement programs by assisting in the planning and implementation of initiatives that promote a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
  • Assist with cultural awareness activities, coworker events, community outreach opportunities, and Inclusion Team initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and project updates related to language support and inclusion efforts.
  • Work in a variety of temperature conditions and be available for limited travel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Education, Social Work, Community Engagement, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficiency in Hmong and English, with demonstrated ability to translate and interpret written and verbal communications.
  • Experience in translation, interpretation, or case management is preferred.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and effectively communicate with coworkers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and related software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and HRIS systems.
  • Collaborative team player who works well with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and maintains a positive attitude.

Work Schedule:

Part-time with flexible hours based on the intern's class schedule and business needs. This position primarily supports production operations, with a preference for availability during 2nd shift hours to align with coworker support needs. The leader and intern will establish a schedule that aligns with the academic calendar and business needs. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the school year, with the opportunity to increase hours during school breaks.
