About the roleThe Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) will be responsible for supporting plasma center operations, determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager or Assistant Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Specialist should be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment and will follow guidance provided by Bio Life Medical Affairs while providing center‑level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
Howyou will contribute
- Determine donor eligibility, including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician standing orders and transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when providing feedback on unacceptable findings to donors or guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health or ER, following EHS guidance.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate‑equivalent degree from an approved nursing program with state requirements.
- Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
