Position
Apprentice Gas Distribution Service Technician – La Crosse Service Center, La Crosse, WI.
Starting hourly pay: $32.90 (Step1=65%). Step progression and starting base journeyman pay ($50.62) are defined by the union contract. Position open until 30
July
2026.
As a member of the on‑call roster for emergency callouts, you will work with the gas construction crew to maintain and install the gas distribution system.
Responsibilities- Locate gas lines and underground electric cables
- Disconnect and reconnect gas and electric meters for stop‑and‑start service, credit, and collections
- Perform meter changes for single‑phase electric and gas periodic meters
- Conduct gas leak and public building surveys
- Respond to gas emergencies and odor calls
- Assist the gas construction crew with installation or maintenance of the gas distribution system
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Additional training in natural gas, electricity, or related fields
- Experience locating gas and electric underground facilities
- Commitment to safety and company safety rules
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Residence within a 20‑mile radius of the assigned service center within the first 6months of hire
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) ClassA; meet FMCSR parts
382 and
391 driver qualification requirements within the first 6months of hire - Undergo Clause‑of‑the‑Law random drug and alcohol testing
- Willing and able to respond to after‑hour emergency callouts
- Experience with installation or maintenance of gas distribution systems
- Direct customer contact experience
