Spanish Bilingual Instructional Aide
The job goal is to increase the effectiveness of the EL/ESL/ELL teacher in the classroom and provide academic assistance to EL students. To assist with translation of information provided by parents, guardians, schools, teachers, administrators and others. To assist in providing supplemental support to schools with ESL students and their families.

Reports To:
Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator
- High school diploma or equivalent, Associate's (2-year) degree or higher preferred; any other appropriate degree/certification/license.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and
- Experience working with migrant and/or limited English proficient/ESL students and families, preferred.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's
- Ability and willingness to participate in staff training
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including students, parents and others.

Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and
- Works under the direction of a certificated employee at all
- Attends and participates in project-related training sessions and
- Assists in providing academic support to EL
- Assists, when authorized by supervising EL teacher, with communications between school and parents of EL students
- Assists with conducting ESL parent workshop and family literacy training
- Assists with the preparation of instructional aides, bulletin boards, and other learning displays as assigned by the supervising EL teacher.
- Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all
- Schedules and conducts home visits with the ESL Liaison to meet with parents of ESL students to discuss school issues and to offer family literacy training.
- Provides translation services for teacher conferences and parent meetings, when requested, as authorized by the supervising EL teacher.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team
- Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representative groups as
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and

Salary:
Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule
Terms of Employment:
As established by the board and applicable state law.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
