Distribution Engineer
We are seeking a Distribution Engineer to support power distribution projects servicing the Birmingham area and the Eastern Division. A Distribution Engineer designs, plans, and manages electrical distribution systems that deliver electricity to homes, businesses, and industries, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery. This role is integral to ongoing capital upgrades and grid modernization programs that improve reliability and efficiency across the utility footprint.
Projects will include:
- Automation initiatives
- Copper wire replacement
- Device upgrades
- Joint Use/Share Services support
- KV conversions and strengthening of tie lines
- Establishing power distribution for new businesses and facilities

Education, skills, and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred for specialized roles).
- Proficiency in distribution design software, CAD tools, and power system simulation; familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in Power Utility Distribution Services, including overhead and underground systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution principles, grid operations, protection systems, and regulatory standards.
- Ability to assess network performance and develop effective solutions.
- Skilled in planning and executing infrastructure projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to embrace new technologies and evolving industry trends.
- Commitment to safety protocols in design and maintenance activities.

This is a contract position based out of Oneonta, AL.
Pay and benefits:
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
