Job Goals
  • To provide direction, planning, monitoring, and oversight of healthcare services for the District.
  • To collaborate with the superintendent and district administrators to support implementation of healthcare services for students.
  • To coordinate healthcare information management and ensure compliance with applicable Alabama Board of Nursing requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN);
    Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR)
  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience. School nursing experience is preferred.
  • Possess and maintains a valid Alabama Driver’s License.
  • Skills and Physical Abilities
    • Ability to manage, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
    • Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate all functions of school and district nursing programs.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings.
    • Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.
    • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information related to health services.
    • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community and state healthcare services and agencies.
    • Effective interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate complex medical and technical concepts.
    • Strong leadership, organizational and project management skills.
    • Physical strength, stamina, agility, and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
    • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
    • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

    Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Advocates, supports, and promotes all aspects of the Blount County School System nursing program procedures and initiatives.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of school health programs for nurses, school administrators, and school staff.
  • Ensures coordination and implementation of all programs of primary prevention and control of communicable diseases, health education programs, wellness activities, and healthcare related campaigns for the school system.
  • Directs and oversees all training and certification of nurses.
  • Oversees operation of the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for the District.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Alabama State Department of Education and the school system regarding the health program, system reporting, and data collection.
  • Provides guidance and recommendation for exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with applicable policies and guidelines on infections and contagious diseases/conditions.
  • Collaborates with community and state healthcare agencies to improve healthcare services.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Provides supervision and support for all aspects of the district nursing program.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  • Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
  • Serves on school/system committees as required.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Terms of employment

    240-days

    Daily work schedule will be determined by the Assistant Superintendent / Superintendent for the necessary operations of the System.

    Salary

    Approved salary schedule for the position is located on the Human Resources webpage. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week with daily full-time equivalent of 37.5 standard work hours.

    Evaluation

    Performance will be evaluated by the administration in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
