Special Education Teacher Aide
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Hold an Associates's Degree as related to the position or demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed.
* Such alternatives to the qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
* Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

School Principal and Special Education Coordinator
SUPERVISES:
Students
CONTRACT DAYS: 182 days.
SALARY:
Salary is based on appropriate step on the approved OCS salary schedule.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
JOB GOAL:
To assist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. All job goals and activities will comply with Special Education regulations and directives.
ESSENTIAL
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
* Attend school during assigned hours.
* Adhere to school system rules, administration procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
* Attend faculty and other assigned meetings.
* Participate in the State Board and system required in-service and professional development.
* Assists in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
* Perform reasonable duties necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school.
* Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
* Exhibit positive human relations skills and professional ethics.
* Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
* Demonstrate competency in the use of computers and available technology.
* Contribute to the overall development of an effective school program.
* Assist bus driver in pick-up and delivery of students to and from school.
* Toilet designated students.
* Accompany students to lunch-coach and assist as necessary.
* Assists in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
* Work in conjunction with and take direction from school health specialists, OT and PT personnel regarding physical needs of challenged students.
* Work in conjunction with case manager, lead teacher, and department chair to provide assistance in the classroom as necessary, including academic and personal support as needed.
* Assist teachers with classroom instruction and tutoring.
* Follow administrative and teacher directives.
* Provides assistance with instructional activities to children as necessary.
* Setup, maintain and supervise the use, care and inventory of school provided equipment.
* Escort students to and from classroom as needed.
* Communicate concerns and requests to teacher in an appropriate and timely manner.
* Perform clerical tasks and maintain individual records for students as necessary.
* Monitor detention, time-outs, and restricted study.
* Perform other duties as might be reasonably assigned by the Principal or Superintendent or by direction of the Board.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires sufficient physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Subject to a wide variety of behavioral situations associated with developmentally-delayed students. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students' physical or sanitation/hygiene needs.
Significant standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling. Must have the ability to lift or move 50 lbs.
