Job DescriptionWelcome to the Oregon Department of Forestry. Our Mission – To protect and promote resilient forests that benefit all Oregonians. This position is Hybrid Remote Work. The duties of this position are performed remotely, as well as our central office in Salem. You will be required to work one day per week in Salem. In addition, the ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.

What We Are Looking ForAs the Accountant 1, you will function within the General Ledger Unit of the Financial Services Program and is responsible for Workday/Payroll reconciliations between Workday and SFMS.
Duties include:
- Assist with the review of the payroll error report to determine the correct coding by working with the districts or thru research.
- Process payroll corrections for leave time errors or others as needed.
- Reconcile payroll over payments to ensure payments are coded correct or invoice to reimburse agency.
- Work closely with DAS payroll.
Possession of a CPA or CGFM certificate OR a bachelor’s degree in accounting OR successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university OR 32 Quarter (21 Semester) Credit Hours In Accounting From An Accredited Institution AND Two Years Of Technical, Para-Professional Accounting Experience to include:
- Classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records
- Designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records
- Preparing financial statements and reports
- Analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions
- Analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts and account relationships resulting in accounting entries
Note:
Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Skills
- Ability to determine transaction types for coding of revenues, expenditures, and insuring they are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Ability to determine adequacy of internal controls, and suggest changes if necessary.
- Ability to provide staff, public and private agencies with services in accordance with Federal and State laws, rules, policies and procedures prescribed by the Department and according to GAAP.
- Ability to make decisions regarding records of revenues and expenditures; expenditure control limitation/appropriation; non-expendable and expendable inventory records.
