Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Bookkeeper who is organized, dependable, and a proactive problem-solver with strong critical thinking abilities. This position involves managing day-to-day accounting tasks, reconciling accounts, and helping ensure the accuracy of our financial records. The role requires 5-10 hours per week of availability during daytime hours (between 9 AM and 5 PM Eastern) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays.
This role will require 10-15 hours total per week to start.
- Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Process and record financial transactions, including bank deposits and payments.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness, troubleshooting discrepancies as they arise.
- Assist with payroll processing and tax filings.
- May include cleanup of prior period financial records.
- Monitor company spending and help identify potential improvements to financial processes.
- Successful completion of other ad hoc bookkeeping duties as assigned.
- Some prior bookkeeping or accounting experience is preferred (minimum 1-2 years); preference will be given to those with nonprofit financial experience.
- Familiarity with accounting software (Quick Books, Xero, or similar).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent integrity, trustworthiness, and judgment required.
- Ability to successfully sustain remote work completion within required days/times of day.
Certification in bookkeeping or accounting is a plus but not required; preference will be given to candidates with nonprofit experience.
