Description:
Position Summary:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing general support to the finance department for accounting functions including accounts receivable and general ledger and support for high level business processes including auditing, financial reporting and analysis for the College as a whole.
Essential
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor and approve purchase requisitions according to College policies and procedures.
Run accounting system control reports and log results.
Answer general accounting questions by email/phone as they occur.
Review general fund expense transfers and accumulate supporting documentation.
Verify appropriate documentation for journal entries uploaded to Xtender application.
Monitor purchasing card transactions exported from Chrome River application and review for compliance.
Prepare invoices and monitor accounts receivable balances.
Process monthly internal chargeback journal entries.
Analyze general ledger accounts, identify and research discrepancies and run financial reports.
Perform testing and evaluation of financial system patches, fixes and system upgrades on an ongoing basis.
Oversight of Financial Services office administration, including shared handling of mail and conference room scheduling.
Other duties as assigned.
Related Duties:
Prepare work papers in conjunction with the annual audit.
Gather financial reporting information for external and internal stakeholders.
Respond to requests regarding Agency accounts.
Assist Accountant with fixed asset tagging.
Assist with month end close process.
Serve as backup for the Cash Management Technician.
Position is identified as work from home eligible after initial on-campus training period. See criteria below.
This position is identified as work from home eligible up to three (3) days per week, based on determination that essential duties can
1) be performed outside of the worksite,
2) be performed without access to equipment, material, and files located on campus,
3) be performed without face-to-face contact with supervisor, students or staff, and
4) be performed remotely with an overall neutral effect on students, coworkers, and the organization as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High School Diploma or GED and 5 years relevant work experience and 45 credit hours in related coursework or the equivalent combination of education and work experience
Experience with data extraction, manipulation, and reporting
Strong foundation in accounting principles.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in the use of computerized accounting and cloud-based software programs, integrated computer systems, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas).
Strong oral and written communication skills and a commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
