The Controller's Office is responsible for AARP's enterprise-wide accounting activities. This includes maintaining internal controls; compliance with federal, state, and other legal reporting requirements; grants management; revenue recognition; general ledger activity; accounts payable/receivable; payroll; tax; and procurement functions to include managing strategic outsourcing, contract negotiation and supplier management.
The Accountant ensures the organization's accounting and financial data is accurate and prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards. Ensures that the organization complies with all applicable regulatory and tax standards. Produces useful and timely financial reports for internal and external users. Processes and prepares accounting entries; reviews and audits financial statements and reports ensuring all calculations and data entries are correct.
Reconciles general ledger accounts and identifies any discrepancies and errors. Follows-up on pending business and responds to requests. Responds to inquiries from internal clients and researches and resolves concerns or discrepancies.
Responsibilities
* Processes and prepares accounting entries.
* Reviews and audits financial statements and reports ensuring all calculations and data entries are correct.
* Reconciles general ledger accounts, identifying any discrepancies and errors. Follows-up on pending business and responds to requests.
* Responds to inquiries from internal clients and researches and resolves concerns or discrepancies.
* Serves as liaison with internal clients to gather and distribute financial information and ensures that clients understand financial policies and the importance of compliance therewith.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting with at least 3 years of related experience.
* Strong proficiency in Excel for efficient data management and analysis.
* Solid understanding of GAAP to support accurate and compliant financial reporting.
* Experience preparing financial statements from general ledger data.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
* Demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Hybrid Work Environment
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
