This position will handle all accounting functions at one of our engineered parts manufacturing facilities in the Chicago area. The position will report directly to the Industrial Group Controller. The Accounting Controller will enforce corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls within the division, and focus primarily on inventory controls and valuation. The position will coordinate with purchasing, accounts payable, inventory, and production teams to accurately track materials through production.

The position will participate in production planning, materials purchasing, and coordination with outside processors. The Accounting Controller is primarily responsible for inventory cycle counts and reconciliations, tracking standard cost variances and preparation of daily operational and financial reports. The position will also prepare monthly financials, analyze inventory variances, and assist the manufacturing director in production planning and sales backlog reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of inventory accounting, accounts payable, invoicing/billing, and labor reporting.
  • Conduct inventory cycle counts, labor cost reviews, standard costing reviews, internal audits and providing information to corporate office and external auditors.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Senior Operations Management, Supervisors and Office staff to provide financial data that helps them to run efficient and profitable facilities.
  • Achieve budget goals by monitoring plan vs actual production, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Manage and perform month-end closing, journal entries, analyzing inventory valuation and inventory roll forward.
  • Analyze inventory/margin reports and conduct research to analyze costs and profitability.
  • Aid in management of labor costs, including tracking of overtime and attendance.
  • Supervision of 3-5 accounting staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CMA or CPA preferred.
  • +5 years of accounting experience showing progressive career path.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting and analysis, product costing, inventory controls, and process improvements.
  • Manufacturing industry experience required, audit experience preferred.
  • Experience with entity integration or consolidation
  • Understanding ERP Systems and experience in system conversion.
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze, reconcile, and interpret data.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient in all MS Office programs, with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and professional demeanor.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting management reports. Supervisory experience a plus.

This is an on-site role expected to be in the office during normal business hours. Potential remote work flexibility will be based on job performance, business needs, and supervisor approval. The Controller position has the typical physical requirements of working in an office setting. There may be light travel to other company locations on an intermittent basis.
