Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant supports the month-end close process, performs detailed reconciliations, and manages high volumes of accounting data to ensure accurate financial reporting. This role requires a strong accounting foundation, comfort with complex and manual processes, and the ability to interpret non-standard inputs while partnering closely with a collaborative and supportive team.

Responsibilities

+ Support the month-end close process, beginning with the June close and continuing on an ongoing basis.

+ Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner.

+ Perform account reconciliations for key areas, including accrued liabilities, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

+ Handle a high volume of accounting data and manual entries, including complex and detail-heavy processes.

+ Review and interpret accounting data received from ships and other non-standard sources, ensuring it is properly recorded.

+ Complete reconciliations after close and verify the accuracy and completeness of financial information.

+ Generate reports used for forecasting and provide clear, reliable deliverables to leadership.

+ Provide backup support across the accounting team as needed, contributing to shared goals and deadlines.

+ Work collaboratively with team members to resolve issues, improve processes, and maintain strong communication.

Essential Skills

+ Strong accounting foundation with hands-on experience in month-end close and account reconciliations.

+ Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries.

+ Ability to work confidently with large data sets and manual accounting processes.

+ Skill in navigating complex or non-standard accounting inputs, including unstructured data.

+ Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.

+ Experience working with ERP systems, with People Soft preferred.

+ Ability to quickly ramp up, learn new processes, and operate independently.

+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data and reporting.

+ Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate within a team environment.

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience running Macros in Excel is a plus.

+

Experience with Tableau is a plus.

+ Interest in working with data from diverse and non-standard sources, such as ship-based operations.

+ Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving processes and tools.

+ Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.

Work Environment

The role follows a standard schedule of 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, providing structure and predictability to the workday. The position offers flexibility with remote work on Fridays, supporting work-life balance. You will report to a senior leader within the accounting function and collaborate closely with a highly supportive and hands-on team. You will work with tools such as Excel, ERP systems (with People Soft preferred), and potentially Tableau, in an environment that values accuracy, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Miami, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
