About the Role
The North Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR) is seeking a Tax Auditor I (NS) to examine individual income tax returns and records to ensure taxpayer compliance with the revenue laws of North Carolina. The position is full‑time, permanent, and operated from the Raleigh Service Center with a hybrid remote work schedule.
Responsibilities- Review and audit individual income tax returns for compliance.
- Maintain an audit plan, selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing records, and preparing audit reports.
- Communicate complex and technical information to taxpayers in a timely manner.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or a related field with at least twelve semester hours of accounting from an accredited institution; or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum education and experience requirements as stated in the job posting.
- Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Income Tax.
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Basic knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and practices.
Recruitment range: $54,137 - $84,388. State benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, retirement plans, and NCFlex program.
