About the Role

Director of Accounting, Shared Service – provides pivotal strategic and operational leadership, overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and consolidation processes for Canon USA, Inc. Reports to the Sr Director of Shared Services Accounting. Manages the SS Accounting Group and directs the Sales and Non‑Sales Divisions for the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate transmission of Canon USA’s financial results to the Consolidation Group.

Serves as a key technical accounting resource, driving strategy execution, financial policy development, SOX controls, and daily accounting practices to ensure accurate financial reporting, process improvements, and regulatory compliance across all divisions.

Responsibilities
  • Manage SS Accounting Department:
    Direct daily accounting process, manage staff, ensure timely operations, provide training and guidance.
  • Monthly Close:
    Ensure monthly close completion accurately and meet all deadlines (1.5 days), including transmission of consolidated financial results to the Consolidations Group by target time.
  • Group Guidance & Process Improvement:
    Establish and communicate reporting time‑frames and requirements to all divisions; continuously drive closing process improvements across Canon USA.
  • Technical Compliance & Research:
    Act as subject‑matter expert on accounting principles and reporting rules; monitor new pronouncements, update reporting requirements, and provide GAAP guidance to accounting departments.
  • Financial and SOX Audits:
    Strategically manage audit requests from internal and external auditors, ensuring timely, accurate responses and comprehensive support; maintain a strong control environment.
  • Strategic Leadership & Team Development:
    Direct activities of multiple managers; set team goals, manage budgets, oversee selection, development, and evaluation of staff.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience; 10 years of related experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; MBA a plus.
  • Extensive progressive experience managing a corporate accounting group, proven track record with complex processes and multiple operating systems.
  • Experience with Oracle and/or SAP preferred; audit experience in a public accounting firm(s) highly preferred.
  • Experience serving as main point of contact for external auditors to develop and defend technical accounting treatments.
  • Strong revenue recognition experience; lease accounting experience a plus.
  • Leadership: several years managing accounting managers and staff; proven track record of mentoring and developing senior accountants and managers.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non‑accountants.
  • In‑depth knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting rules; IFRS knowledge a plus.
  • Systems knowledge: working knowledge of large database operating systems such as Oracle R12; experience using Oracle Hyperion Advanced Excel;
    Google Workspace experience a plus.
Compensation

In accordance with applicable law, the anticipated salary range is $151,570 - $226,970.

Workstyle

Hybrid – this full‑time position requires presence in the office three designated days a week, with an option to work from home the remainder of the week unless business needs dictate otherwise.
