Position Summary
Assist the Fixed Asset Accountant and Associate Manager of Accounting Services in asset‑related activity, ensuring monitoring, recording, tracking, depreciation, and safeguarding of the University’s fixed assets and bonds. Analyze lease agreements related to GASB 87 lessees in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards.
Responsibilities- Prepare and record journal entries in Workday and Core, including GASB 87 lessee entries for payments, initial recognition, interest, liability classifications, and amortization.
- Process monthly bond entries (accruals, interest subsidy, amortization, cash deposits, draws, and transfers) and quarterly bond entries for restricted cash and swap valuation.
- Make corrections to capital project entries with missing or incorrect work tags.
- Record GASB 96 entries and GASB 87 entries for lessors prepared by the fixed asset accountant.
- Determine lease classification under GASB 87, calculate present values, maintain schedules in Workday and Excel, and reconcile cash accounts in plant funds and construction-in-progress/retainage accounts.
- Process work orders from AHEC, ensuring proper account coding and approvals.
- Approve invoices and purchase orders for capital projects or bonds, verify correct work tags, align payments with debt documents, and submit bond and notes payable payments on schedule.
- Assist in preparing quarterly State exhibits for fixed assets and bonds.
- Serve as backup for reconciliations, invoice approvals, journal entries, and data extraction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Proficient Excel skills with Pivot Table or similar functionality.
- Experience with internal reconciliations and a fast‑paced environment requiring strong organizational skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Experience in higher education.
- Minimum one year of professional accounting experience.
- Professional experience with Workday Finance or a related ERP system.
Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Hybrid schedule: two weeks of in‑person training followed by remote work flexibility subject to supervisor approval. Employee must reside in Colorado.
SalaryThe anticipated hiring range is $41,626 – $60,174 annually, paid monthly and eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
