The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Division of Business and Finance (DBF), is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Statewide Accountant 1. In this vital role, the selected candidate will function as a primary point of contact between the General Accounting Office (GAO) Central Payroll and various State agencies, boards, and commissions. The position delivers critical functional assistance concerning the AZ360 HRM system, interprets and guides entities on statewide accounting policies and procedures, and provides essential support throughout the rigorous statewide fiscal and calendar year‑end close processes.
The core responsibilities of this position encompass a variety of essential operational tasks critical to the state's financial integrity. The Statewide Accountant 1 executes precise data entry for payroll adjustments, conducts meticulous reviews of daily supplemental payroll transactions, and performs comprehensive general ledger reconciliations of payroll clearing accounts. Beyond daily operational duties, the incumbent is expected to actively evaluate workflows, recommending strategic process improvements and updates to standard work instructions as well as statewide accounting policies related to their primary functional tasks.
All assignments must be executed in strict conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines, and foundational theories and concepts unique to a sophisticated governmental accounting environment.

Job Duties- Utilizes AZ360 HRM reporting to compile data for payroll processes such as supplemental payroll for analysis and review for supplemental transaction approval.
- Assists in statistical analysis of payroll processes for analysis to recommend process improvements.
- Uses the AZ360 FIN and HRM applications to retrieve and review data files, analyze and compile the information derived into a standard format for internal and external management use.
- Reviews their own work with diligence to ensure accurate preparation and processing of documents in FIN and HRM.
- Enters data into AZ360 HRM for Direct Deposit Reversals, Warrant Cancellations and Warrant Replacements.
- Assists in reconciling the Garnishment Refund General Ledger account with Supervisor by researching deposits posted, checks deposited and vendor warrants canceled.
- Assists in general ledger reconciliations by comparing figures and noting discrepancies.
- Prepares adjusting entries for either HRM or FIN for resolution of discrepancies.
- Reviews legal documents for completeness before entering into HRM.
- Performs procedures to ensure compliance with garnishment orders by having appropriate correspondence notarized and mailed to Courts by prescribed deadlines.
- Reviews entries of garnishments in HRM for accuracy to ensure case numbers are correct.
- Reports problems to administrator or department head.
- Uses judgment and experience to handle common agency questions and issues and escalates to Supervisor when necessary.
