We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable bookkeeper to join our growing bookkeeping firm serving small businesses and non‑profits throughout Monterey County. The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, experience managing multiple clients or accounts, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

This role is responsible for day‑to‑day bookkeeping functions, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting clients with organized and timely financial information.

This position is potentially hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week working in‑office (Carmel, CA by The Barnyard) and the remaining schedule eligible for remote work based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Manage bookkeeping for multiple clients accounts across various industries
  • Record and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan transactions
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Assist with payroll processing and payroll reporting
  • Maintain organized digital financial records and documentation
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues promptly
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding financial matters
  • Support month‑end and year‑end closing procedures
  • Collaborate with senior staff on process improvements and client support
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, or an associate’s degree in accounting.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial reporting
  • Experience with Quick Books Online
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cloud‑based business tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple client accounts
  • Strong communication and client service skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with various payroll platforms and CA sales tax reporting
