Our client, a leading life insurance and reinsurance organization, is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Accounting Policy to join its growing finance organization. This is a highly visible role that will serve as the technical accounting expert for the company, supporting strategic initiatives, complex transactions, new accounting standards, and enterprise-wide finance transformation efforts. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical accounting expertise with strong business acumen and the ability to partner across finance, actuarial, investments, tax, and executive leadership.

Technical Accounting & Policy
- Lead technical accounting research, analysis, and documentation for complex accounting matters, including acquisitions, new business initiatives, strategic transactions, and contractual arrangements.
- Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance.
- Evaluate and implement new accounting standards and regulatory guidance, ensuring timely adoption and compliance.
- Monitor emerging accounting developments and communicate the financial and operational impact to senior leadership.
Business Partnership
- Partner closely with Controllers, Investments, Tax, Actuarial, FP&A, and other finance teams to provide accounting guidance on key business initiatives.
- Provide accounting support throughout the transaction lifecycle, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment for complex business activities.
- Collaborate on enterprise finance projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements.
- Assist with audited consolidated financial statements and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Partner with internal and external auditors throughout the annual audit process.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) internal control requirements.
Leadership
- Develop and deliver technical accounting training to finance leadership and business partners.
- Represent the organization at industry accounting committees and professional forums.
- Promote consistency in accounting policies and best practices across the finance organization.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA designation.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience in technical accounting, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Big Four public accounting experience or a combination of public accounting and industry experience.
- Strong experience with life insurance and/or reinsurance accounting.
Technical Expertise
- U.S. GAAP, including ASC 944, ASC 805, ASC 810, ASC 323, ASC 820, CECL, and LDTI.
- Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), including SSAP 26, SSAP 43, SSAP 51, SSAP 56, SSAP 61, and SSAP 86.
- Technical accounting research, policy development, and accounting position documentation.
- Implementation of new accounting standards and complex accounting projects.

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to explain complex accounting topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proven ability to build strong cross‑functional relationships and serve as a trusted accounting advisor.
- High attention to detail with a proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills; experience with financial systems such as Black Line, Workiva, or Net Suite is a plus.
