About the Role
Join our dynamic Finance Shared Services team as an Accounting Analyst (Contractor - L3), where you'll play a crucial part in payroll and labor cost accuracy for a mission-driven organization. This role is ideal for detail-oriented professionals eager to leverage advanced analytical skills and financial expertise, while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a high-impact environment. With exposure to industry-leading systems and government compliance, you'll gain valuable experience and make a direct contribution to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

- Perform accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations for payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, deductions, labor accruals, and payroll clearing accounts.
- Reconcile timekeeping data from Oracle Maestro and Deltek Costpoint, ensuring labor reporting integrity and alignment with payroll outputs.
- Validate tax postings, employer liabilities, and tax payments by coordinating with Payroll Analysts and external payroll tax partners.
- Investigate and resolve variances across timekeeping, payroll, and general ledger transactions, documenting root causes and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Payroll and Time & Labor Analysts to maintain data integrity, supporting accurate overtime, premium pay, job costing, and labor distribution.
- Review payroll, tax, and labor cost allocation journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Support government compliance by ensuring labor transactions adhere to cost accounting standards and are properly classified for contract reporting.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations, accruals, and audit support.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, flowcharts, and reconciliation templates to strengthen internal controls and standardize practices.
- Create reports and conduct financial analyses to support audits, budgeting, compliance reviews, and operational decisions.
- Participate in system updates, testing, and process improvement initiatives related to payroll or labor accounting.

Required Skills and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- 2-4 years of accounting experience with exposure to payroll, labor accounting, or tax reconciliation.
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting, labor cost allocation, and general ledger processes.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions for analyzing and reconciling large data sets.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with a track record of meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills

- Experience supporting multistate payroll environments.
- Familiarity with Oracle Maestro and/or Deltek Costpoint.
- Exposure to government contracting, cost accounting standards (CAS), or DCAA compliance.
- Experience providing audit support and documenting internal controls.
- Knowledge of payroll tax principles and reporting cycles.
