Job Responsibilities
Perform multiple accounting support functions, such as compiling, sorting, and preparing documents and reports, issuing bills and invoices, calculating and verifying debit and credit amounts, posting transactions to appropriate accounts, ensuring the appropriate filing and maintenance of accounting records, inputting data into financial systems and reconciling reports, creating and producing reports, and assisting accountants on special projects as necessary.
- Review invoices for proper account coding and ensure proper approval level.
- Ensure sufficient supporting documentation accompanies invoices.
- Enter invoices and check requests into the computerized accounting system.
- Review invoices for sales and use tax requirements; recalculate tax on invoice for verification.
- Prepare accounts payable vouchers for ACH payments and for manual checks for Accounting Supervisor’s review.
- Transmit Positive Pay file to bank for all accounts payable checks issued.
- Identify new vendors, obtain SBA and IRS information, maintain current vendor SBA and W‑9 files, and perform TIN matching on the IRS website for all new W‑9s.
- Review travel advance log and notify Supervisor and Accounting of delinquent or outstanding advances.
- Research and complete assigned special projects.
- Maintain current Accounts Payable Technician Procedures Manual.
- Maintain current accounts payable vendor files with paid invoices.
- Process and audit employee and Board of Directors’ travel and expense reports for proper account coding and compliance.
- Reconcile monthly credit card statements to travel and expense reports.
- Assist employees with travel expense reporting and travel policy.
- May be required to report to the office once a week in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of accounting or related experience.
- Proficiency with Excel.
- Works under limited supervision while exercising independent judgment.
- Performs complex tasks and completes assignments with little or no assistance.
- Fully proficient in the discipline.
- Must provide non-cellular high‑speed internet service such as fiber, DSL, or cable modem for a home office.
- Minimum standard speed of 30 Mbps download × 5 Mbps upload.
- Latency lower than 80 ms.
- Hotspots, satellite, and wireless internet service are not allowed.
- Dedicated space devoid of ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information.
