Position: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - RANGE 14 / AMEA

Job Summary

This position serves as the primary accounting professional reporting to the MPO Coordinator, responsible for complete and accurate professional grant accounting and financial support for FHWA AMATS grant program and TIP state pass‑thru grants. Duties include development and maintenance of internal record‑keeping and accounting controls, coordination and processing of accounts payable/receivable, purchase requisitions, vouchers, journal entries, budget transfers, and other financial transactions for AMATS.

The accountant verifies funds for expenditures, ensures compliance with federal and state grant requirements, prepares and assists with contracts, contract amendments, RFPs, and other purchasing documents, develops and completes DBE forms for FHWA funding, leads compliance with federal procurement requirements, and serves as primary contact for internal and external grant audits.

Responsibilities
  • Provide complete and accurate professional grant accounting and financial support for the FHWA AMATS grant program and TIP state pass‑thru grants.
  • Develop and maintain internal record‑keeping and accounting controls.
  • Coordinate and process accounts payable/receivable, purchase requisitions, vouchers, journal entries, budget transfers, and other financial transactions for AMATS.
  • Verify funds for expenditures, ensuring compliance with all federal and state grant requirements.
  • Prepare and assist with contracts, contract amendments, RFPs, and other purchasing related documents.
  • Develop and complete DBE forms for FHWA funding and lead compliance with all federal procurement requirements.
  • Act as primary contact for internal and external grant audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline and at least 2 years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
  • Or CPA or CMA certification and at least 2 years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
  • Or Associate’s degree in Accounting or related discipline and at least 4 years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
  • Or high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and at least 6 years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA candidates.

  • Remote work schedule opportunities may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40‑40.
