Lease Accountant - Birmingham, AL

An established Birmingham‑based company is seeking a Lease Accountant to join the corporate team. This is an in‑office role at the company’s Birmingham home office.

About the Role

This role sits at the intersection of finance, real estate, legal, and operations. The Lease Accountant will manage the company's real estate obligations, ensuring accurate lease‑related financials, controlling occupancy costs, maintaining compliance, and serving as the key liaison between internal departments and external real estate partners.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain accurate rent payment records, ensuring timely, correct payments and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Review CAM, taxes, insurance, and utility charges to control occupancy costs and verify accurate billing.
  • Track key lease dates—renewals, expirations, terminations—and ensure compliance with lease terms.
  • Coordinate between internal teams (Finance, Legal, Operations, Construction, Asset Management) and external partners including landlords and property managers.
  • Manage critical milestones such as rent commencements, lease terminations, and space delivery.
  • Prepare and review estoppel certificates as needed.
  • Standardize lease administration procedures aligned with company policy.
  • Maintain organized lease documentation accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Process and provide sales reports to landlords upon request.
What We're Looking For
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with lease‑administration software is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex lease agreements and financial documents.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable working across departments and with external partners.
  • Highly organized, able to juggle multiple deadlines without dropping the ball.
  • Real estate or lease accounting experience preferred, not required.
