About the Role
J.R. Helms & Associates, P.C. is a full-service accounting, tax, and business consulting firm based in Indianapolis. We are hiring an Audit/Tax Accountant (CPA) to support both audit and income tax engagements across a variety of industries and clients.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys a mix of audit, financial reporting, and income tax work
, while working directly with clients in a collaborative public accounting environment. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, communicates professionally, and can think through real-world accounting and tax issues — not just follow a checklist.
This role requires sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to think through issues—not just follow a checklist.
What You’ll Do- Communicate professionally with clients and coworkers
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Assist with operational and financial audit fieldwork
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Reconcile and balance general ledger accounts
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Perform data entry and financial analysis
- Prepare income tax returns for individuals, businesses, and non-profits
- Support clients across multiple industries and engagements
- CPA license or CPA-track preferred
- Experience in public accounting preferred
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements
- Experience with audit procedures and/or income tax preparation
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced professional environment

Compensation:
Competitive salary range of $70,000–$100,000
, based on experience, with opportunities for growth, professional development, and performance-based increases.
