Job Responsibilities
The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.
Job Purpose:Under limited supervision, perform managerial duties relative to State Department of Educations (SDE's) Fiscal Accounting functions. Develop, implement, and review Department policies and procedures to create and maintain all SDE financial transactions.
Responsibilities:- Supervise the accounting section and coordinate the daily operations to ensure that required documentation and procedures are maintained.
- Review and/or prepare account reconciliations including cash expenditures. Prepare and distribute receipt of revenue analysis and reports.
- Supervise the preparation of State and Federal financial reports to include the Generally Accepted Accounting Procedure (GAAP) closing packages, cash reconciliations, etc.
- Review and approve journal vouchers to indicate financial adjustments.
- Develop and implement all Department accounting policies and procedures to conform with the GAAP. Implement internal controls to comply with State and Federal Regulations.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive chart of accounts to comply with South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field and professional experience in a related area, such as accounting, auditing, finance, or banking.
Preferred Qualifications- A bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with fifteen (15) semester hours of accounting related courses.
- Four (4) years of professional accounting experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
