Financial Controller

Overview

We’re a fast-growing, privately held oil & gas company looking for a high-performing controller to take ownership of key accounting functions, financial reporting, and help lead the company through its next stage of growth.

This is a hands-on, individual contributor and managerial role reporting directly to executive leadership. You’ll be instrumental in building out GAAP-compliant reporting, coordinating close cycles, and driving process improvement across multiple entities. The role offers broad exposure to financial reporting, revenue and JIB accounting, tax coordination, and acquisition integration.

• Lead the accounting team to maintain general ledger integrity, ensure accurate revenue, JIB, and lease operating statements.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements across multiple entities, including consolidation.
• Lead or support technical accounting research and draft GAAP memos as needed.
• Support external audits, including IRS and state audits, responding to inquiries and ensuring compliance.
• Assist in the transition from tax-basis to GAAP accounting, ensuring tax impact is accurately reflected.
• Coordinate entity structuring and intercompany allocations, monthly processes, reconciliations, etc.
• Monitor tax law changes and advise leadership on strategies to optimize tax positions.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting
• CPA strongly preferred (or strong progress toward CPA if highly experienced in oil & gas)
• 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP financial reporting and full cycle accounting
• Experience with relevant oil & gas software preferred
• Strong intellectual curiosity to provide outside-the-box ideas and solutions
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, unstructured environment and drive improvements
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to understand other functions within jade owls

• This is a work-from-home role.
• Ad hoc travel for in-person meetings may occur quarterly

• Base Pay Range: $150,000 - $180,000
• Restricted Stock Units: TBD
• RSUs are provided based upon performance
• Future pay growth is based on value added, not years of experience
