If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, you will be expected to work in the office at least 60% of the week and from home the remainder. - Remote:
If you live more than 50 miles away, you will work from home within the continental US. On occasion you may be requested to come to the office; any such requests will be communicated in advance.
- Perform treaty and accounting requirements for reinsurance activities.
- Collaborate with Financial Shared Services and other experts to learn and document the company’s reinsurance activities.
- Help develop a centralized inventory of active reinsurance treaties and related provisions.
- Document how reinsurance activities are reflected in the company’s accounting and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with SOX 404 and MAR.
- Administer existing reinsurance treaty agreements to ensure adherence to provisions and facilitate periodic cash settlement.
- Work with the Financial Reporting team to complete monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting requirements including journal entries, reinsurance accruals, and Schedule S filings.
- Assist with external and internal audit requests.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of professional, job-related experience.
- Understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills for accruals, settlements, and other reinsurance deliverables.
- Intellectual curiosity about U.S. GAAP, statutory, and international accounting implications of the reinsurance program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Proficiency in process improvement techniques, including diagnostic and problem‑solving, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
- Aptitude for learning accounting and data analysis systems/applications.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills.
- Professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team and management.
- Knowledge and experience with SAP preferred.
- Working toward Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Reinsurance experience.

BenefitsSalary range for this job is $65,000 - $85,000. Compensation also considers factors such as education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. Salary does not include potential incentive pay or benefits, which will be discussed separately.
