We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Full Charge Bookkeeper to manage comprehensive accounting functions for our organization. This vital role involves overseeing all aspects of financial record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and maintaining the integrity of our financial data. Reporting to the managing attorney of the firm and working closely with the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for managing the firm’s financial operations, including day-to-day bookkeeping, legal billing, trust accounting, and financial reporting.

Job Description & Duties

This position will ensure that all firm financial records are complete, accurate and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. This role is critical to supporting attorneys and management by providing reliable financial information and maintaining client funds in accordance with strict IOLTA accounting rules.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the firm’s general ledger and accurately recording all financial transactions
  • Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable, including tracking outstanding balances and collections
  • Performing bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Handling legal billing processes, including invoice preparation
  • Maintaining and reconciling all IOLTA client Trust accounts in compliance with New Hampshire Bar requirements
  • Performing monthly three‑way reconciliations of trust accounts (bank, book, client ledgers)
  • Tracking and applying client retainer funds
  • Processing payroll and coordinating payroll tax filings
  • Preparing monthly and year‑end financial reports for firm management and CPA
  • Ensuring compliance with tax reporting and regulatory requirements, including 1099‑MISC and 1099‑NEC preparation
  • Maintaining organized, audit‑ready financial records complete with supporting documentation
  • Supporting real estate closings and escrow‑related accounting
  • Coordinating with accountants and auditors as needed
  • Monitoring cash flow and firm financial performance; assisting with budgeting
Experience, Education & Skill Requirements

Five or more years of full‑charge bookkeeping experience required. Proficiency in Quick Books Desktop Pro and Microsoft Excel is essential to the role. Experience in a law firm or other professional services setting is preferred. Knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting is strongly preferred. Experience with legal billing or practice management systems (Clio) is preferred.

This position requires self‑sufficiency and strong skills in organization, accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills are critical. This position also requires professional discretion, personal integrity and strict confidentiality.

Work Environment and Hours

Full‑time employees at CDA work a standard minimum 37.5 hours weekly, less ten (10) observed federal holidays and any provided vacation and PTO time. New hires are generally onboarded with two weeks’ paid vacation and one week PTO/sick time. Office hours are 8:30am–5pm with an hour closure for lunch from 12–1pm. This is an in‑office position at our Manchester, NH office;

however, work from home is approved at supervisor discretion on an intermittent basis provided employees have necessary cybersecurity provisions in place on their home network and equipment.
