Property Accountant
Compensation: $90,000 – $120,000 Base Salary
Location: Montvale, NJ
A well-established commercial real estate owner and property management firm is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join its growing accounting team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong foundation in property accounting who can independently manage the day-to-day financial responsibilities of a commercial real estate portfolio.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing month‑end close activities, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance while working within a property management environment.
Experience with
MRI is strongly preferred, although candidates with Yardi experience will also be considered. This individual should possess a solid understanding of accounting principles and require minimal training on core accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities Property Accounting- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Complete month‑end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Conduct quarterly general ledger audits to ensure portfolio‑wide financial accuracy.
- Review financial postings and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Research accounting transactions and generate financial reports utilizing accounting systems.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret financial reports related to cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and profit and loss activity.
- Prepare journal entries and support annual audit activities.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning initiatives.
- Classify, record, and summarize financial transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Review tenant lease agreements and process billing in accordance with lease provisions.
- Assist with annual CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations.
- Monitor the timely payment of real estate taxes and assessments.
- Manage annual report filings and business license renewals across multiple states.
- Ensure compliance with banking, mortgage, federal, state, and internal financial requirements.
- Coordinate with banking institutions to establish and maintain financial accounts.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
- Support special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Minimum of 2–4+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Commercial real estate property accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals including:
- Bank reconciliations
- Month‑end close
- Journal entries
- General ledger
- Proficiency with accounting software.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience with MRI accounting software strongly preferred.
- Candidates with Yardi experience will also be considered.
- Knowledge of property accounting including recoveries, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
